U.S.A. CONCERT REVIEWS BY FANS

Concert Review by Nancy Pasquale, June 21, 2006

The Providence, Rhode Island, concert ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Magnificent!!!

The crowd was wild for Helmut! We danced, we clapped, we hooted and howled! Helmut had a lot of fun and was feeling playful. He joked around, he laughed, he sang his heart out; and he blew us away with “Nessun Dorma!”  Ohhhhhhhh,  how I love that song.

He sang 2 crooner songs "Moon River" and "Everybody Loves Somebody".  And he also sang “Kumbaya”, “John Brown’s Body”, “What Now My Love”, and so many other songs...it was fantastic!

I had a second row seat,  and at one point a fan taking pictures was approached and the camera was taken away. Helmut said he had no problem with people taking pictures. Than he walked over to me and asked me how I thought he looked and I said "HOT" (as in sexy hot)...the whole place just went wild with applause!!

I met Helmut at the meet- and- greet after the show, and he was so sweet. He remembered my full name, and I was there with my husband and sons and asked for a family picture. He said to me "just come in real close to me (no problem) and he put his arms around me to pull me towards him so that we could squeeze everyone in. It could not get better than when you have Helmut’s arms around you (right,  ladies?).

Concert review from Evelyn.  June 20, 2006

Proctor Theatre, Schenectady, New York

The concert was a success. The theater was practically full…. the main floor, the loges, and of course the balcony. We arrived early so we could get a place to park. While waiting, Helmut walked through the arcade (hallway of the Theater). He had on a beige pinstripe suit, and he looked very nice and of course very handsome. Every one was hollering and applauding, and Helmut was grinning from ear to ear.

The concert started at exactly
8:00. When Helmut walked down the aisle from the rear of the theater singing our beautiful national anthem, the sound sent chills to all. He finished the anthem on the stage, very stoic with his hand on his breast. It was lovely. Naturally, everyone was standing and when he ended, the applause was fantastic.  Some of the songs:   Dean Martin’s “Everybody Loves Somebody”, and Andy Williams’ “Moon River”. He sang Lara’s song, but I found most of the concert was Elvis.  He did Elvis throughout the concert instead of at the end, and he danced up a storm. Let me say this. I was never an Elvis fan, except for his Gospel music, but Helmut did Elvis better than Elvis.  Helmut surely does knows how to entertain.  There were two standing ovations and his encore was Nessun Dorma which he sang beautifully. He received some gifts and of course flowers. The audience was quite happy with his performance.

On stage he wore his black tails and white shirt with a bow tie.    His shoes were black patent leather and when he danced around, the bright light made  reflections on his shoes so it looked like they had their own lights on them.

The orchestra was good, but Andre was missed. Andre had so much charisma. Wim  Bohet, always the piano player was the new conductor.

For the meet-and-greet, Helmut had changed back into his pin- stripe suit.  He signed autographs and posed for pictures.  He said he was not suffering from jet lag because he and his friend were in NYC for 5 days.  He said NYC is busy, busy, busy, but beautiful. He commented on how beautiful Proctors Theater is, and of course he praised PBS.

All in all it was a great evening and great entertainment, even though my favorites have always been the Classics, especially from the Castle album. You all know his new album will be out in September. There will be 24 songs on it, twelve of which he wrote himself.  How can one man have it all like that?  Such talent, such good looks and I forgot to mention he was quite comical.  He just seems like such a nice, down –to- earth guy. In conclusion, I must say he really should be a star here in the USA.

Concert review by Charlotte

Baltimore, Maryland, June 22, 2006

The Baltimore concert was fantastic for me. I had looked forward to it for so long.  We had end seats right where he turned the corner to walk down the aisle and I looked right into his eyes. Helmut looked like he was concentrating….. so deep in thought while singing the "National Anthem", which he does so well.  Maybe he was a little nervous as he reached the stage. The audience didn't warm up right away.  But they did all stand up and clap.  Later he did get standing ovations, I think 3 or 4, but when he sang "Granada",  they really responded fully. I kept saying yes. yes. At one point in the beginning I did stand alone but that's ok. I kept thinking am I really here…… is he really here or am I dreaming?

Helmut sang a variety of his repertoire, danced…. and gave his kisses to the fans who gave him gifts.  Ushers were watching for cameras as none were allowed so I did not get any…..and I had no pass for the Meet- and- Greet

My two oldest grand-daughters were with me and though they are too young to know the older music, they seemed to enjoy the concert. The youngest said she didn't think he would jump around the stage so much.  She thought he would just stand there and sing classical,( she’s into country music). So she got a surprise. I wish we could get him here more often.  I am so happy I did get to see him live, in person.  It all went so fast, I have to keep pinching myself to prove it wasn't a dream.  I have thought of nothing else since Thursday because it was my first Lotti concert.  I first saw him on PBS almost nine years ago and thought I would never see him live….. but my faith in mankind gave this old lady a thrill and brought him back to the U.S.  Of course, I thank my son for my pc so I can keep in contact with all the nice people, and know where and what Helmut is up to.

I can't get that look in Helmut’s eyes as he turned that corner out of my head. He is fantastic, adorable, sexy, and ever- so- talented and i sincerely hope he comes back again in my lifetime.  Until then I will watch my videos and DVD’s at least once a day and feel content. To all you lucky people in Belgium and the other countries….. keep him safe and happy. Hope he finds peace and happiness in his private life as well. His mother must feel so proud. He is a fine and wonderful young man.  How about that tinge of gray hair?   I hope I have given you all a happy feeling about Baltimore.

Live From Lincoln Center

Concert Review by Bettianne, June 23,2006

Helmut sang the Star Spangled Banner as he came down the aisle. Then he launched into “Santa Lucia”, and from there it was Elvis interspersed with a Latino song, then Lara’s theme, back to “Valencia”, “Granada”,  “Surrender”, “What Now My Love?”, “Let's Have a Party”, “I'm Just a Gigolo”, “Love Me Tender”, “Hit The Road Jack”, “You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling”, “Pata Pata”, “Don't Be Cruel”, “Amazing Grace”, “Danny Boy”, “Kumbaya”, “John Brown’s Body”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Everybody Loves Somebody”, and  “Moon River”, not all in that order of course.  All the while he was singing, he was moving with such energy back and forth across the stage, making eye contact with all of the Lottifans. It was one unforgetable performance. I can't believe all the energy he has.

One Lottifan gave him a gift … a letter with a lot of 'c' sounds and asked him to read it in the Xhosa language, which he did.  Of course, he stopped to give Belgian kisses and he recognized his Belgium/European fans who had traveled to see him here in the USA. There were many standing ovations... and we were treated to”Nessun Dorma”. All in all Helmut gave THREE !!!!  encores.

A little bit about Lottifans. I have been an official Lottifan now for four years and the kindness, consideration, and generosity never fails to touch me. I am temporarily in a wheelchair and Luce and Brenda just took over when my husband was taking me to the ladies’ room. After the concert, I was going to tag along to the meet- and- greet although I had no official letter……. bold as brass I am now  where Helmut is concerned. But when I saw steps, and I had not brought my crutches with me, I was disappointed.  Bruce shouted out to Cliff, "We'll carry her up"...but of course I said, "We'll see you another time". Gisela searched me out at the Fountain Cafe and dear heart...she brought me a gift of Unicef bracelets and a copy of Helmut's cd, “My Favorite Classics”.  I met Joan Handy, as we were table companions and know that we will meet each other again at another concert. I am so touched and continue to have such warm emotions towards all the Lotti-family.

There were Lottifans from Belgium, Germany, Netherlands. Canada, and of course from all over America

To Helmut and all of the Lottifans traveling back to their homes, safe travels to you…. and I’ll see you at the next concert in America or Canada.
